About us

What is glass fusion?

Glass is one of the oldest materials that has been used for centuries in art, crafts, architecture, and more recently in the preservation and packaging of valuable foodstuffs. We are increasingly encouraged to use glassin everyday life to protect the planet. Glass is not only a good material to recycle, but also a great material to create different art, and it gives us artists an endless opportunity to express our imagination.

Taljenje stakla je tehnika u kojoj se dva ili više komada stakla spajaju zajedno u staklenim pećima na visokim temperaturama. Temperature koje se postižu su do 900 C. Velika je vještina znati koja je temperatura prikladna za različite projekte.

There are different types of glass that can be used according to the glass rating which is measured by the coefficient of expansion (COE). It is simply a measurement of the rate at which glass expands and contracts when heated and cooled.

In the Amalgam glass studio, we use several different types of glass. Float glass or popularly called window glass and art glass which is the softer glass from which most of our jewelry is made.

Dichroic glass is used on the sparkling parts in our jewelry, which can give each item a different dimension.

Dichroic glass, usually abbreviated dichro, is glass coated with very thin layers of metal oxides and literally means "two-colored" in Greek. It got its name because of its fantastic multi-colored and reflective properties. When you look at this glass, the thin layers produce different colors, so it appears to have more than one color at the same time, which can be seen by viewing in certain lighting conditions.Dichroic glass, usually abbreviated dichro, is glass coated with very thin layers of metal oxides and literally means "two-colored" in Greek. Glass can be in different forms, such as colored powder, pebbles, sticks, blocks, etc. This gives us designers more possibilities, creativity, and inspires us to push the boundaries and discover new possibilities in the creation of our products every day.

We cut the glass, color it and create the design all by hand. We recycle some of our glass for use in different projects.

Each item is unique, handmade.

There can only be similar objects, but none are the same.

About the artist

Irena Poje - Oxenham

I started working with glass quite by accident more than 10 years ago when I was drawn to glass with beautiful rainbow colors and it was love at first sight. I haven't stopped creating since then. I attended several lectures and was a participant in workshops for more than four years when I decided to buy my first furnace and start my own adventure with glass. I wanted to learn more and experimented with different glasses and shapes and took many online courses which gave me more confidence and knowledge which I now use in my project and teaching others.

My hobby has become my job, which I enjoy immensely.

When I enter my studio, I am surrounded by an atmosphere of creativity and peace. I feel a sense of calm and inspiration fill me, and the stress of the outside world melts away as I immerse myself in my craft.

While I'm working, my mind wanders and my worries slip away. When I finally stepped back to admire my work, I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Along the way, I still learn a lot and develop new techniques every day with which I create unusual and attractive creations. Various glass specimens made with a lot of love and consideration are special and unrepeatable, and therefore unique.

I share my knowledge in my courses and workshops with all those who will decide get to know the secrets of glass and get involved in making objects of different colors and textures.

I was born in Zagreb. I graduated in economics, majoring in tourism. I lived and worked for 13 years in Great Britain, and now I live with my husband and two grown-up sons in Zagreb.
